Black Belt Katas of Go Kan Ryu Karate
Are you trying to learn the black belt katas? Do you wish that there was an official DVD to learn from?
The powers that be have not yet produced a black belt DVD, and are unlikely to do so in the near future. Even the World Cup DVDs only show a few moves from each black belt kata. At the 2005 World Cup, I had an excellent vantage point 30 feet behind the main ring standing on a chair! I filmed most of the best opens performances, including the finals, with my semi-pro camera.
This DVD contains those performances, and whilst the quality is not quite as good GKR's official DVDs, it offers the unique advantage that you can see World Class performances performed at the very highest level. Many people have already used my DVD to learn the black belt katas - now here's your chance.

The DVD includes the following performances:
- 2 x Sepai
- 3 x Kururunfa
- 2 x Kanku Dai
- 3 x Kanku Sho
- 1 x Shisochin
- 1 x Seisan
- 1 x Sochin
As a special bonus, the DVD also includes Kancho's performance of Ni Kante, the second open-handed kata that he created. It also includes Shihan's graceful old-style performance of Karurunfa, complete in traditional hakamah!
But haven't the katas changed since then?
GKR's katas are constantly evolving, but the versions in this DVD are virtually identical to the ones that you'll need to grade or compete. In fact, they're more up to date than the Kyu grade kata DVDs, which were released in 2004, and are still current!
As always, look to your sensei or senior zone sensei for the refinements, but use this DVD to learn the patterns and fundamentals.
This DVD has gotten me through many a competition and my nidan grading!
