Train like a winner to be a winner

Anyone can develop a winner's attitude

There's an old saying that teaches the value of practice and it goes, "Practice makes perfect." The only trouble is, it's not true. In GKR, we have a better version; "Practice makes permanent." You see, the point is, you can practice as hard and as often as you like, but if you're practising the wrong technique, all you're doing is teaching yourself to be great at a bad technique.

Before you can practice a great technique, you need to understand what that technique is. Don't assume that just because you've heard your sensei describe a front punch 50 times before that you can switch off and stop listening because there's always new stuff to learn. In fact, us senseis never tell you all there is to know about a subject, because it's too much to take in, and you're not capable of using all that information. Instead, we drip feed you a little bit more each week so that you can digest everything and put it to good use.

The other trick to training like a winner is to work hard all the time, especially when it's uncomfortable. Try to punch faster, use your hips better, or stretch further, and don't be satisfied only with what comes easily. Do you think that the winners in karate only do what comes easy? Of course not, and nor should you!
