THE COMPETITION AREA
DEFINITION AND ETIQUETTE
The competition area is made up of a series of rings which are boundaries marked out in a square, within which the events can take place.
No person other than tournament officials and competitors is permitted to enter the competition area at any time.
Each ring will consist of one square boundary, with a table and two chairs for the use of the timekeeper and scorekeeper. A further three chairs will be placed at each ring for the use of the three Judges and/or Referees.
THE RING

The ring is measured as a 6 meter square and is to be clearly marked by tape on the floor. (Make sure it is not the kind of tape that lifts of existing paint/lines of the floor). |

Two parallel lines must be marked at a distance of 1.5 meters from the sidelines of the ring at right angles to the Referee's line. These indicate the competitor's starting positions. |

| 3. |
Two parallel lines must be marked 1.5 meters from the front and back lines of the ring to indicate the Referee and Judge's starting positions. |

The Arbitrator and scorekeeper must be seated behind the Referee, out of the ring. |

A line marked KATA must be placed 2 meters in from the baseline |

BASIC RING SET-UP FOR KUMITE

In order to save time with setting up and running the tournament, the Kata line shown in the previous diagram will remain on the floor during the Kumite bouts. However, in order to avoid confusion, it will have the word KATA written on the line.
Where possible, the ring size may be 7 x 7m or 8 x 8m (maximum). Where this occurs, ring set-up
(i.e. Referee, Judge, Kata and competitor's lines must be altered accordingly (based on Tournament Director's decisions).
